Brian Hodgson has recently returned to painting full time after an inspiring period working in Kenya and was rewarded with his first London
exhibition. He picks simple subjects - an abandoned bench; the handle of a spade resting on a leaf strewn wall; the cool blue water of a swimming
pool, baking terracotta tiles and the intricate shadow of an unseen table; a curtain billowing from a half open window - to create intriguing pictures.
The photographic quality of his paintings is enhanced by the skillful play of light and shade. Represented by Kristina Avery of avery-contemporary-
